10 Weird Pregnancy Symptoms You Should Know

Discharge

That’s right, I said it, discharge ???? That thing that women don’t talk about is likely going to get a lot worse. Be prepared for increased frequency, amount, and possibly smell. Some women don’t experience much of a change, and other women have compared it to feeling a gush and wondering if their water broke.

One thing that has really helped me is Knix Leakproof Underwear. It contains leaks and scent, and I feel so much better not worrying about a wet spot leaking through my leggings.

Large Nipples

It’s a totally random pregnancy symptom but your nipples and areolas can become quite large but don’t worry, they do start to shrink back down to size after birth ????

Constipation and Other Weird Back End Things

Constipation is very common. Your poops can also get quite solid causing some issues on the way out and plugging the toilet. Not going to lie, this is totally an issue for me ???? Please know you’re not alone. I panicked, and my midwife told me it’s totally normal.

Lightning Crotch

Lightning crotch, also known as fire crotch is a weird pregnancy symptom many women experience towards the end of pregnancy. The pressure of the baby getting into position in the pelvis for birth can cause quite a bit of pain on the pubic bone. Some women don’t experience it very much, other women have to deal with it for 6-8+ weeks. So if this happens to you, hang in there mama! At least it means you’re in the home stretch now ❤️️

Bloody Nose

Hormones do a lot of strange things to our bodies, and one of those things affects the blood vessels in your nose. I don’t know the specifics, but if you start to get bloody noses or notice a bit of blood on the tissue when you blow your nose, know that it’s a totally common pregnancy symptom.

Intense Itching

This is different than the usual itching from your belly stretching out and your skin being dry. If that happens don’t scratch! It can make stretch marks worse, but make sure you moisturize and drink lots of water. The kind of itching I’m talking about is super annoying and can happen at any area of your body for no reason at all.

I didn’t experience this with my first pregnancy but had an itchy area on my back for a few months for this pregnancy. So annoying!

Growth of Body Hair

Yes, our head of hair can become long and lustrous like the cover of a romance novel, but unlike a romance novel, we can also get random dark long hairs on our chest, around our belly button, and other places. Thankfully it’s nothing some quick fingers and tweezers can’t fix.

Worsened Eyesight

For some reason pregnancy also affects our eyesight. I’ve read that it can make it better, but I’ve only heard personal reports of their eyesight getting worse. Personally, my eyesight got worse with my first pregnancy, improved postpartum, and has gotten worse again with my second pregnancy. If you’re pregnant and thinking about getting glasses you may want to wait until you’re at least a few months postpartum and your eyes have had a chance to adjust.

Increased Burping and Farting

As if these gross and weird pregnancy symptoms weren’t bad enough you can be prepared to totally gross out your significant other with increased frequency of burping and farting. It also might smell a lot worse than it used to. If you’re sitting there totally grossed out by your body, please know that it will go back to (mostly) normal, and in this case, your farts and burps should return to normal.

Body Odor

The good ole stink can carry on to other parts of your body too. Unfortunately, you may notice you sweat more, and it may smell more ???? Just another lovely thing to look forward to, but if you have a good underarm product you should be good. Sad to say, I had to drop natural deodorants and use the not so good for you antipersperants because I’m not down for the extra sweat and smell during pregnancy.

There you have it, 10 gross and weird pregnancy symptoms nobody talks about. I hope I didn’t gross you out too much, but I really think it’s important that these things are more out in the open, because they’re totally common and just a part of the pregnancy journey.
