Know the Infection First
When we’re vaccinating our kids, the best thing we can be is informed. As Dr. Taylor mentioned in our full UM Club Episode about vaccines, know the infection first. If you’re sitting here thinking should I vaccinate my child, start looking into what all the different vaccines do and what they protect against.
There’s so much research behind the vaccines that make up the BC immunization schedule, so start by finding sources that you trust. If you’re on the fence about something, the best thing you can do is research it to make yourself more comfortable. We’re at our best when we’re informed and empowered, so always seek out information that you trust. Looking for a place to start? Look at the Demographics
The next best thing to do after you’ve looked more into how the disease that you’re fighting works is to look at how effective the vaccines are. Most of the vaccines being given out these days have been tested for many years, but when it comes to newer things like the covid vaccine for kids, there’s not as much data.
This is when looking at effectiveness can help ease our minds. Vaccinating children against any of the many diseases and infections we face is just like protecting them in any other way – we want to know how effective our modes of protection are, and pick the best ones. Looking at data, like how efficacious the vaccine was or how many people it was tested on, adds more to our knowledge toolkit, and helps us to make the best decisions for our families.
